🏕️ The Showdown: Two Parks. Two Towns. One Winner.

We pitted two of Ontario’s most beloved provincial parks—and their nearby beach towns—head-to-head in our first ever Battle of the Beach Towns. Here’s what went down:

🌊 Sauble Falls Provincial Park

  • Location: On the Saugeen River, 5 km from Sauble Beach
  • Vibe: Cozy, quiet, and perfect for paddling or tenting
  • Size: 152 campsites, 6 suitable for rigs over 32′
  • Google Rating: ⭐ 4.4
  • Highlights: Waterfalls, canoe/kayak access, excellent playground and picnic area

🏖️ Sauble Beach

  • Vibe: Classic cottage country. Think ice cream shops, family fun, and laid-back boardwalks.
  • Hot Spots: Luscious Bakery, Sola’s Grill, mini golf, adventure park, and Sauble Speedway
  • Best For: Families, chill vibes, day-trippers

🌲 The Pinery

  • Location: Just outside Grand Bend, with 10 km of Lake Huron shoreline
  • Vibe: Massive, active, and well-equipped for big rigs
  • Size: Over 1,000 campsites, plus yurts and cabins
  • Google Rating: ⭐ 4.7
  • Highlights: Multiple trail systems, bike/canoe rentals, huge beach, Nature Centre

🎡 Grand Bend

  • Vibe: Bustling, beachy resort town with a party edge
  • Hot Spots: Grand Bend Motorplex, Pinery Market, nightlife, riverwalk patios
  • Best For: Group getaways, festivals, foodies, and boaters

💩 Real Talk: Dump Stations, Road Signs & Tight Turns

  • Sauble Falls: Only 1 dump/fill station on the east side, tight for large rigs. Be cautious about site size and campground layout—navigating alone can be tricky.
  • The Pinery: Two dump/fill locations, better spacing, but prepare for long lines on peak weekends.

🚴 Biking & Hiking

  • Sauble Falls: Great riverside trails and relaxing paddling routes.
  • The Pinery: Extensive trail loops, but don’t get lost! Poor signage led to a surprise 12km bike ride that ended in back pain and a new bike purchase. (No regrets, just sore legs.)

👀 The People Have Spoken: 1-Star & 5-Star Review Highlights

Sauble Falls

❌ “Consider any roadside water puddle better than this.”
✅ “Quiet, excellent location. Falls are lovely. Must-visit for scenery and dog-friendly!”

The Pinery

❌ “Too much driving, too many dogs, too loud.”
✅ “Amazing park for all ages. Great rentals, clean facilities, and a lively beach.”

🏆 Our Winner: Sauble Falls & Sauble Beach

Surprise! We each made our pick live—and both chose Sauble Falls. Here’s why:

  • Melina: I love the quiet, cozy layout, the access to the river, and the beach-town feel of Sauble Beach. It’s just so unbothered.
  • Dan: The kayaking, the perch lunch on the patio at Sola’s Grill, and the classic vibes sealed the deal for me. Plus, our kid could fish solo and unplug safely. That matters.
