Pancake Bay and…Roadkill? | Episode 1

Welcome to Episode 1 of the RV Canucks Podcast!!

We’re THRILLED you came to find out how on earth we managed to jump a dead deer with a pop-up camper and lived to tell the tale!

Honestly, in the grand scheme of things, this was just a blip in the radar of other weird and wonderful adventures we’ve had on the open road (if a bit traumatic for our girls, who were 4 and 7 at the time)

Listen to the full podcast for all the details as well as some valuable tips from way back in 2013 when we did our first “big” road trip with our first trailer (seen below in all its glory) 🙂

RV Canucks Trip Notes

Pancake Bay Provincial Park is GORGEOUS and it’s definitely one of our top-two Great Lakes parks to visit. One of the benefits of the park is its long, narrow layout and proximity to Lake Superior, though be warned, the wind off the lake can be unforgiving at times, so be sure to strap your belongings down and bundle up at night!

The lake is cold…like pins and needles cold…and we visited in AUGUST! Melina might be a warm-blooded west-coaster, but the res of the family is hearty Ontario stock, and still, we recommend wet suits if you’ve got ’em.

The park is easily walkable, and the trails are not too challenging for those with small children. It’s also a great park to ride bikes and see the sites.

There is a local trading post not far outside the park gates, called Agawa Crafts, that sells ICE CREAM and works from local artisans. Definitely a must-stop for treats or gifts.

Sault St. Marie is a large centre for groceries, repairs, medical needs, etc. but it is an hour by car, so best to plan your trip to make sure you get everything you need. “The Soo” is also the starting point for the Agawa Canyon Tour Train which is an award-winning scenic train ride through the picturesque Agawa Canyon.
