End of Season RV Maintenance | Episode 9

This past weekend we booked a transient site at a seasonal campground with full services to get some of our end-of-season tasks done before we (sadly) store our trailer for the winter.

In our part of the country, winter can come early or late, but when it comes IT COMES WITH A VENGEANCE. That’s why we like to get all the grunt-work done while the sun is still shining, and we can still relax and enjoy the changing of the seasons.

End of Season RV Maintenance

One of the top jobs this past weekend was to clean our disgusting awning. It has been bugging us for a few seasons. We clean it every year with awning cleaner, but that clearly wasn’t up to the task, as we had all kinds of buildup that didn’t seem to go away. To combat this, we used one of our favourite hacks to bring it back to (almost) new condition – Mr. Clean Magic Erasers

A word to the wise though – don’t skip the gloves – those magic erasers are tough on skin…

The extra-durable pads were essential as they hold up better

Because…teal…

Sorry Canada – This mop is only available in the USA

Other items we made sure to do this weekend:

  • Seals around windows, seams and roof components
  • Slide out cleaning and conditioning
  • Roof conditioning and cleaning
  • Interior deep clean
  • Blank and Grey Tank treatments
  • Tire check and under-carriage inspection

How to Winterize Your Water System

As mentioned in the episode, we’re lazy and we pay to have someone winterize for us. (Actually, the truth is Dan and I work 5 jobs between the two of us, so we have to unload something or we’ll go crazy).

With that said, we didn’t want to leave you without a DIY option, so enter RV Mentor Joseph Testa who is the real pro when it comes to winterizing your RV water system. Joseph has graciously shared with us a fabulous DIY guide to winterizing your system complete with step by step instructions and pictures. Read the winterization guide.

RV Tires and To Cover or Not Cover?

We finish up this episode by talking about some topics we’ve heard come up recently in the RVing community and our take, namely replacing trailer tires with vehicle truck tires and whether or not to cover your trailer for the off-season. Listen to find out our hot take.

We’re also going to share some really special listener mail about a sweet couple who managed to carry on their adventures after disaster struck when they listened to our very first podcast about hitting a deer in Michigan

We are so, so happy everyone was safe, and we thank Lynne for reaching out. We love listener mail. Have a story you’d like to share with us? You can connect with us on Facebook or Instagram, or by sending us an email. Stay safe Travel fam.
