Surviving a Daddy-Daughter Fishing Trip in Northern Ontario | Episode 10

In today’s episode, we have fishing accidents, bleeding knees, a lost hiking expedition, a hangry daddy…and a very special guest!

Our youngest daughter joins Dan to talk about all of the mishaps that happen when you take a trip without Mom…and how that leads to lots of fun (and lots of fish)!

In particular, Dan laments the lack of boxed lunches for the road. If you haven’t learned about Box Lunches yet, listen to episode 8 where we review our best trips for making more miles on your road trips.

SITES

It’s important to note that there are some hills in the campground and the roads are loose gravel. On our first trip to the park some years back, we locked up the brakes skidding down the hill with our 29′ travel trailer, so we warned to take it slow and easy if camping with a larger rig.

The park is fairly small, but the sites are private and the stars are beautiful from pretty much everywhere in the park.

The campground contains two comfort stations, complete with hot water, showers, flush toilets (all barrier-free), and laundry facilities.

Boat Dock and Fish Cleaning Stations

Finlayson Point has a boat basin with docking facilities, along with a boat launch and fish cleaning area. Mooring fees apply when using the docking facilities.

Look out for Bass, Pike, Perch, Lake Trout and Walleye in abundance. A valid fishing license is required to fish and limits are in effect.

The fish cleaning station is well-appointed and avoids taking fish parts back to your site which can attract wildlife

Hiking and Daytrips

There are lots of hiking and canoe access points in the area. We suggest picking up an adventure map which lists the various public access locations.

One must-do trip is the Caribou Fire Tower. The view from the top is fantastic, and it is an easy walk from the parking lot to the tower base. Entrance is via a nominal fee for upkeep and maintenance

Temagami

Temagami is a small municipality, but one that has enough amenities and shops to make your trip comfortable. Great ice cream, sundries, alcohol and artisan shops are only a short hop away from the park and well worth a visit. For a complete listing of services, visit the Municipality of Temagami Website
